Workshop 1 - Re-Dubbing Dialogue
The video that I'm dubbing is Joanna Lumley performing Twelfth NIght's Viola's monologue about her being disguise as a boy and the problems it is caused towards the people around her. Also revealing for her love for the Lord. When uploading the video to GarageBand I notice that the video itself had only consisted of background music this being classical music and not ambient, dialogue so remove all audio sound from the video knowing that I could find likewise classical music elsewhere to add on.
To produce the re-dub video I would using the software GarageBand and using my own voice since I know the monologue and play well but this would be difficult as I'm not a white woman. I had to beware that the video is anti-naturalistic and not functional because she not narrating a scene but she expressing her feeling, having a conversation with the audience not with a character making it ant-naturalistic. Also had to be cautions that GarageBand like Reaper is a sensitive software when recording putting up all the sound of anything making any noise or sound around you.
In the produce of recording I find it difficult to portray Joanna’s style of performing Viola’s monologue because previous to this I’ve have performed this monologue in my own styles and paste this making hard for me to adapt so I decided to record half of the monologue. “Poor lady, she were better love a dream” I believe if I selected any other monologue or dialogue scenes for a film or tv show it would have been easily to adapt because I would have be portraying the character that they have created and made their own. The original that i had in mind to sync my voice to the clip was to repeat the lines after deliver meaning that I know that I had to shift the recording 3 to 5 seconds front meaning by using this techniques believe to have helped me know when there was a break, add on laughs or sighs. But this was not the case I found myself cutting and paste where my voice need to be to sync with Jonna’s, this took a large amount of time. I tried to found any tips or tricks on youtube to learning for future references unfortunately I found none.
After uploading the video and look and hearing back there are some moment where the audio and video are not sync this where I will start doing some more in depth research on the Garageband and watch tutorials. Otherwise the video I was a success I post the clip on my social media for some feedback the mention that the syncing was cleaning but there was one hiccup and that need to add sound effect because Joanna uses a lot of arm gestures.
I left no ring with her. What means this lady?
Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her.
She made good view of me; indeed, so much
That, as methought, her eyes had lost her tongue,
For she did speak in starts distractedly.
She loves me sure; the cunning of her passion
Invites me in this churlish messenger.
None of my lord's ring? Why, he sent her none.
I am the man. If it be so, as 'tis,
Poor lady, she were better love a dream.
